Frequently Asked Questions

Who manufactures ROTRON blowers?

Bison, a business of AMETEK, in Kent, Ohio. ROTRON blowers were formerly produced under AMETEK Dynamic Fluid Solutions, often written AMETEK DFS. Searching for AMETEK Rotron or AMETEK DFS Rotron leads to the same equipment. RotronStore is an authorized distributor and seller, not the manufacturer.

Are ROTRON regenerative blowers oil-free?

Yes. The impeller does not contact the housing and no lubricant is introduced into the air path.

Can ROTRON blowers run continuously?

Yes. Bison states over 25,000 hours of maintenance-free operation on applicable industrial models, with permanently sealed motor bearings rated at 20,000 to 25,000 hours. The manufacturer does note that a blower should not be started more than four times per hour.

Does a regenerative blower make oxygen?

No. It moves air, which is roughly 21% oxygen. Released through diffusers underwater, that air transfers oxygen into the water and strips carbon dioxide out. The blower delivers the air; the gas transfer happens in the water.

Can one blower feed multiple tanks?

Often yes, through a distribution header with balancing valves at each branch. Size the blower for total airflow at the highest pressure any branch requires, and design the piping so air distributes as intended rather than taking the easiest path.

Can a regenerative blower be used in saltwater systems?

Yes, and CP construction is worth pricing when you do. Salt air attacks standard aluminum castings and zinc-plated hardware, sometimes faster than the bearings wear out.

Do I need a relief valve?

In nearly all cases, yes. It prevents system restriction from driving the blower past its pressure or vacuum limit, which is a common cause of overheating. The manufacturer specifies the valve at the outlet on pressure systems and at the inlet on vacuum systems, and on some models it is required rather than optional.

Do I need an inlet filter?

Yes, in almost every installation. Debris drawn into the impeller is not a cheap repair and is typically not covered by the warranty.

How loud is a regenerative blower?

The manufacturer rates ROTRON blowers as quiet within OSHA standards when properly piped or muffled. Inlet, outlet and inline mufflers and sound-attenuating enclosures are available where noise matters, which includes most installations near occupied space.

What is the difference between DR and CP?

DR is the standard industrial build. CP adds Chem-Tough™ corrosion-resistant treatment, a chemical-duty motor with a 303 stainless steel shaft, stainless hardware and nickel-plated flanges. Choose by environment, not by performance.

Are ROTRON blowers made in the USA?

Yes. ROTRON blowers are manufactured in the USA and ISO 9001 compliant.

Do you sell to businesses and institutions?

Yes. Many of our customers are facilities, contractors, integrators and institutions.

Do you provide installation?

No. We supply equipment. Neither RotronStore nor Sivat Water Solutions is an installing contractor. We are glad to talk through installation requirements with whoever is doing the work.
